Thanks to Vitaly
Charny for his review of records for Rakov, Belarus in a Russian
language source. The records that were reviewed came from the "Minskie
Gubernskie Vedomosti" of 1874.
The vedomosti were
pre-revolutionary local governmental
newspapers published throughout the
Russian Empire largely between 1838 and 1917. The
vedomosti were first
published in 1838 in 42 Gubernias (provinces), including Minsk, by order of the Tsar.
In
1838 the first local newspaper, Minskie gubernskie vedomosti
(“Minsk province news”) went into circulation.
Material from the gubernskie
vedomosti has been used over the years in many scholarly
works in history, economics and philology, with many researchers
making use of the excellent collection of microfilms of
gubernskie vedomosti in
the National Library of Russia in St. Petersburg. The National
Library of Russia
http://www.nlr.ru/eng/ contains a collection of all the
newspapers which appeared in the Soviet
Union in Russian, Ukrainian and Belorussian. This collection served
as a source for the collection of the microfilms. The microfilms are
available in some public libraries and universities libraries in the
USA.
The
information about he microfilm can be found in the following site:
